I did one of those spit-in-a-tube DNA kits as a bit of fun, curious about my ancestry, expecting a pie chart of countries and nothing more. What I got, in the relatives section, was a woman listed as a close family match, flagged by the site as a full sibling, a sister, two years older than me, whose name I had never heard in my life.
