Terms Of Use
1. Acceptance
By accessing this website you agree to these terms. If you disagree with any part, please do not use the site.
2. Age requirement
All authors must be at least 18 years old. If you are under 18 you may not create an account or submit content; any account found to belong to a person under 18 will be removed.
3. Your content
Submissions remain the sole property and sole responsibility of their authors. By publishing here you grant the site a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, format, excerpt and translate your text, to produce audio versions of it — including versions narrated by a synthetic voice — and video adaptations of it, and to distribute that audio and video through podcast platforms, feeds and video platforms such as YouTube, whether by us or by our distribution partners; this license exists so that we can run the site and bring its stories to readers, listeners and viewers, and we do not sell your text to third parties or license it onward for anyone else's unrelated product (the full author license is set out in the Author Terms). This site is a true-and-fiction archive: you may submit an account of something you witnessed, or you may submit fiction, provided the story itself says so in its opening lines. Both are legitimate ways to publish here, and readers vote on either. What is never permitted is the third option — inventing events that involve real, identifiable people and presenting them as fact. No submission, true or fiction, may defame identifiable private persons. Our full submission standards are set out in the Editorial Policy. Images and video may only accompany stories and are reviewed by a moderator before or around publication.
3a. Audio, podcast and video
Audio is an optional product of this site: published stories may be turned into podcast episodes and video adaptations, narrated by a synthetic voice, and one episode may contain several stories by different authors. Episodes and videos are distributed through podcast platforms, feeds and video platforms such as YouTube, by us or by our distribution partners. Deleting a story takes its page off the site immediately, but an episode or video that has already been released has been downloaded or mirrored by listeners and platforms and cannot be recalled from other people's devices; on request we remove the episode from our own feed and our own pages, and we do not include the story in any future episode or video.
4. Prohibited material
Advertising, plagiarism, personal data of third parties, and unlawful content are removed without notice. Repeat violations end in account termination.
5. Moderation and removal
We may edit for formatting, reject, or remove any submission or comment at our discretion, before or after publication. Every story carries a Report button; on any valid complaint or owner request we remove the content promptly. Contact for all matters: webmaster@swearithappened.com.
6. No warranty, no liability
Published stories reflect their authors' claims only, and some of them are declared fiction. The site provides all of them "as is", makes no promise that any story is factually accurate, and accepts no liability for user content or for decisions made based on it. The True / Fake verdict shown on a story is the readers' collective opinion — a game the audience agreed to play — and is never a factual finding by the site about the events or about any person named in them. Stories are published as told and are by default treated as works of fiction told in the first person; any resemblance to real events, persons or places is coincidental unless the author states otherwise.
