The Doorbell Rang Every Night at 3:07

When we moved into our house the doorbell started ringing at night. Always once, always a single long ring, and always, when I finally started checking the clock, at exactly 3:07 in the morning. Not 3:05, not 3:10. 3:07, to the minute, every single night.

We would stumble to the door, heart pounding, and there would be no one on the porch. The street empty, the yard empty, nobody walking away, nothing. We installed a camera pointed right at the door, wired to record the porch. Night after night the doorbell rang at 3:07 on the recording, the chime clear on the audio, and the video showed the empty porch the whole time. No one approached. No one pressed the button. The button was not pressed. The bell just rang.

We thought it was an electrical fault, a short in the old wiring triggering the chime. So we unplugged the doorbell. We disconnected it completely, cut its power at the transformer, made sure it was dead. And at 3:07 the next morning, the doorbell rang. A disconnected doorbell, with no power going to it, rang once, long, at 3:07, and we lay in bed and listened to it and did not get up.
