The Customer Who Argued Over Every Single Price

Working behind a small counter, you meet all kinds of people, but one regular turned every transaction into a battle. It started simple enough: he wanted a drink that cost more than what he was willing to pay. He'd slap down barely half the price and act like the deal was already done, insisting I "let it slide." When I pointed out he'd only handed over a fraction, he'd shrug and say that was all he had.

So I decided to match his energy. If he only paid half, he got half. He'd ask for a full cup and I'd tell him what he paid for. He wanted it bagged up after handing me a single coin, so I bagged up exactly that value and asked if he wanted a straw too, just to drive the point home. He swore he wouldn't forget it. I told him that was the only way he'd be drinking it that day.

It never ended. Another time he came back claiming something was wrong with what he'd bought, that it was practically empty and full of crumbs when he opened it. When I offered him a fair swap, he wasn't satisfied. Then came the coin-counting arguments, where he tried to convince me that a small coin was worth double its value, insisting I was making up my own prices. I told him I wasn't back there inventing numbers, and he genuinely tried to argue the math in his favor.
