JURY OF 286 READERS HEARD THIS CASE: 224 believed it, 40 had doubts, 22 weren't buying it.
We had a group chat for organizing a weekend trip, eight of us, and the planning had become, let us say, democratic to the point of chaos. Everyone had opinions. One person in particular kept changing the dates.
I wanted to vent to my closest friend in the group, privately, about how the date-changer was driving me up the wall. I opened a chat, typed a long and honest message naming names and imitating a certain someone's texting style, and hit send.
The little message did not land in my private chat with my friend. It landed in the main group. All eight of us. Including the person I was imitating. Including everyone I had opinions about.
There is a specific kind of horror in watching the "delivered" turn to "read" one profile picture at a time. I saw each of them open it. And then, worst of all, the three dots appeared. Someone was typing. They stopped. They started again. Eight people, and I could not tell who was about to respond, or how.
