Cold Reading
Cold reading is the technique — conscious or not — by which psychics and mediums appear to know the unknowable: high-probability guesses, fishing statements, letting the sitter supply details and remember only hits. Stage mentalists teach it openly; grief-industry critics document it relentlessly. This glossary keeps it sharp because our juries USE it: any account of a stunning reading gets tested against the checklist first. The stories that survive are the ones with a detail no fishing expedition lands — a name, a date, a locked-drawer fact.
