Swear It Happened — CASE FILE #289

That night, someone paced outside his room. The footsteps stopped at his door again and again. Later came the knocks, but when he looked through the peephole, no one was there. Near midnight, he heard scraping at the lock and saw someone crouched low beneath the peephole. By morning, his truck door had been opened. The next night, the same dark pickup returned. Someone tapped his window, tried the bathroom window, and moved inside the empty room beside his. Police arrived just as multiple people ran. They found pry marks, a removed screen, and later, a scrap of paper hidden under the bed with his room number and vehicle plate written on it.
Another story began with a harmless online conversation. The man quickly became possessive and threatening, even though they had never dated. After disappearing, he returned weeks later, acting as if they belonged together. She never gave him her address, yet one night he was waiting near her home. He called her name, attacked her, choked her, and accused her of being with someone else. She survived only because he suddenly left to catch transportation. Police later warned her they believed he intended to kill her.
The final account came from a solo camper who wanted quiet in the woods. At dusk, a stranger appeared near his fire and asked if he was alone. He lied and said friends were coming. Hours later, someone circled his tent, breathing just outside the fabric. The footsteps returned again and again until dawn. When he finally fled, he heard several people running into the trees. Later, he came back for his gear and found everything gone except the ashes from his fire.
Three different nights. Three isolated places. And in each one, someone was watching long before they made themselves known.

That scrap of paper under the bed is the creepiest detail. Did the clerk ever explain why she warned him like it was normal?

That scrap of paper under the bed is the detail I can't shake. Did the clerk ever explain who knew his plate and room so fast?
