Demonology

Demonology is the study of demons, their names, hierarchies, alleged powers, and the rituals used to identify, confront, or expel them. It appears in religious traditions, folklore, occult practice, and later popular culture, where it is often linked to possession narratives and exorcism accounts.

Historically, demonology developed within theology and superstition as people tried to explain illness, violent behavior, misfortune, or uncanny experiences through spiritual beings. In modern terms, skeptics usually interpret demonological claims as products of belief, cultural storytelling, suggestion, mental illness, or misdiagnosed medical conditions rather than evidence of literal entities.
