A paranormal investigator is whoever shows up when a family stops sleeping: sometimes a methodical researcher with meters and interview protocols, sometimes a psychic with sage, often a bit of both. There is no license and no curriculum, which the good ones admit first. Their filed accounts carry a particular weight here because they arrive pre-skepticized: a person whose job is explaining things describing the case they could not. Readers still vote — but they read those confessions slowly.
