Reincarnation
Reincarnation is the return of consciousness in a new body — doctrine in several religions, and a research subject thanks to psychiatrist Ian Stevenson, who documented thousands of children speaking of previous lives, some with verified names, addresses and birthmarks matching wounds. Critics answer with cultural expectation and generous interviewing. The stories here are parents' accounts, mostly: a toddler's calm technical detail about an engine fire, grief for a spouse from 1962 — fading, as the literature predicts, by age seven.
