Wraith

A wraith, in the older strict sense, is the apparition of a person seen at or near the moment of their death — the double that visits to say goodbye. Scottish usage extended it to any spectral likeness, and fantasy fiction has since claimed the word for hooded horrors. The archive uses the strict sense: crisis apparitions with timestamps. The classic filed account is one scene long — a relative standing in a doorway at 3:12, silent, gone — and one phone call later, the time is the only detail anyone remembers checking.
