Crop Circle

A crop circle is a flattened geometric pattern in a field, appearing overnight, stems bent but not broken. Two English pranksters demonstrated in 1991 how a plank and rope make convincing circles, and hoaxing explains most formations. The residue of interest lives in the details hoaxes reproduce badly: expulsion cavities in nodes, patterns finished during rain with no mud tracks. First-person stories here are usually about the NIGHT itself — dogs going silent, a hum, lights over the far hedge — filed by farmers who care little for geometry and less for tourists.
