HOA Horror
HOA horror is the homeowners-association genre: fine-print tyranny, lawn-measurement patrols, liens over flag holders and mailbox hues, board elections with the intrigue of small nations. The legal framework is real and occasionally ruinous, which is why these stories read like thrillers with paperwork. Filed accounts arrive with exhibits — violation letters, bylaw excerpts, meeting minutes — and the reader jury, many of them survivors, votes with the special conviction of people who have also been fined for a wreath.
