Jamais Vu

Jamais vu — never seen — is deja vu's unsettling opposite: the familiar turning alien. Your own street refusing to be your street, a spouse's face becoming a stranger's for three long seconds, a word you have written all your life suddenly looking misspelled. Psychologists can induce the word version by repetition (write door thirty times), and brief episodes are common and benign. The accounts here are the industrial-strength cases: a kitchen that stayed foreign for an hour, and what the witness did when their own reflection joined in.
