Portals

A portal, in paranormal usage, is a location where things pass through: a doorway that occasionally opens somewhere else, a stretch of woods that eats hikers' bearings, a closet the dog guards. The idea organizes half of haunting lore — activity clustering at one threshold — and all of the vanishing-place stories. Nothing about it is testable, which the jury here knows. What keeps the entries honest is geography: multiple unrelated witnesses, years apart, filing reports about the same staircase they never discussed with each other.
