Residual Haunting

A residual haunting is the playback theory of ghosts: the same footsteps on the same stairs at the same hour, a figure that walks its route and never once notices the living. No interaction, no awareness — an event recorded somehow into a place, replaying like tape. The idea is sometimes called the stone tape theory after a 1972 teleplay. Tenants' accounts here fit the pattern with eerie regularity: the crying always at 3:10, the door that opens every third night. What comforts some witnesses — it cannot see you — is exactly what unsettles the rest.
