Apport

An apport is an object that arrives from nowhere — coins raining indoors during seances, jewellery materializing in circles, and in modern domestic reports, things appearing where things cannot be: a ring inside a sealed jar, a photograph inside a locked car. Victorian mediums were caught smuggling apports so routinely that the word carries a smirk. The home cases filed here have no audience to impress, which is their strength: nobody profits when grandmother's thimble, buried with her, turns up on the kitchen sill.
