Haunted Doll

A haunted doll is the object-attachment story in its most marketable form: a doll that moves, blinks, relocates overnight, or simply radiates enough wrongness that owners mail it away — sometimes to museums that specialize in exactly that. Psychology notes that dolls sit deep in the uncanny valley and that we over-read faces by design. The estate-sale and thrift-store accounts filed here rarely feature movement at all. It is quieter: the cat's reaction, the room's temperature, the child who says the doll told her its old name.
