NPE — Non-Paternity Event
An NPE — non-paternity event, softened lately to not parent expected — is genetic genealogy's clinical term for the discovery that one's biological father is not the man on the certificate. Consumer DNA testing surfaces these at scale, with estimates running a few percent of all tests. Behind the acronym are the stories this archive files: the customer-support call that cannot help, the half-sibling match with a familiar smile, and the family dinner where a spit tube quietly rewrote four biographies.
