Out-of-Body Experience (OBE)

An out-of-body experience is the sensation of perceiving the world from outside your own body — floating near the ceiling, watching yourself from a corner. OBEs cluster around anesthesia, cardiac events, extreme exhaustion and high fever, which is why so many of the first-person reports begin in a hospital bed. Researchers can trigger body-location confusion in the lab, yet some witnesses return with details they seemingly could not have seen: an instrument tray behind their head, a relative's argument two rooms away.
