Tulpa

A tulpa is a thoughtform grown deliberate: a companion imagined so persistently that it begins to act autonomously. The word entered western vocabulary through Alexandra David-Neel's Tibet writings; the modern practice lives in online communities that treat it as disciplined imagination. Folklore's warning label — creations that stop obeying — supplies this archive's entries: childhood friends who outstayed childhood, and the adult accounts of trying, carefully and politely, to un-imagine something that now answers back.
